- Neurofibromas lumps on the skin which usually appear at puberty
- Caf'e-au-lait-spots brown marks or patches on the skin you need 6 or more and larger than a 50p
- Family history of NF 1
- freckling under the arm or in the groin region
- Pigmented bumps on the eye's iris these are know as Lisch nodules and cause no problems
- Skeletal abnormalities such as tibia dysphasia (bowing of the legs), or thinning of the shin bone.
- Tumor on the optic nerve that may effect vision
